I was very dissapointed with this maul. When I recieved it, I split one or two logs, then went to quarter a small piece, and I didn’t put much force into the swing, and the handle broke and delaminated. The swing was so weak there wasn’t even a dent in the handle, a proper handle would have taken it. It must been pre-cracked from the way they press the heads onto the handles, as the grain orientation was good, that is the only reason I could think of for it tp break. I contacted Council with pictures and a description, but they told me to go to the distributor to get it sorted out. Additionally, the steel was pretty soft, when I went to pound a vintage wedge (after my new handle) it chewed up the back of the maul, wheras my dads old maul has pounded that wedge numerous times and the back of the maul is still smooth. Overall, sub-par steel, poor quality control, poor customer service.
